Ms Pearl Nkosi

Pearl Nkosi is a founder of and Director at Blugrey Occupational Hygiene consultants Pty Ltd which is a KZN based Approved Inspection Authority: Occupational Hygiene. She holds a B:Tech in Environmental Health and an Advanced Certificate in Mine Environmental control.

She started her career at Anglo American Thermal Coal, in the VOHE department. She worked at a few operations within Anglo American thermal coal. In 2011, Pearl joined Optimum Coal as an Occupational Hygiene Manager responsible for its then opencast operations, metallurgical processing plants and one underground mine.

She joined Forbes and Mahnattan Coal (now Buffalo Coal Corp.) in 2012 as the SHEQ Manager where she was instrumental in the development and implementation of a comprehensive SHEQ Management system which included the construction and commissioning of the occupational health centre (Clinic). Pearl also served as a Non-Executive Director at Zinoju Coal Pty Ltd.

She then started her own company in November 2016. The consulting agency has assisted a number of companies including Kumba Iron Ore, Harmony Gold, Seriti Resources, Eskom, Debswana Diamond Mines, NPC Intercement Group to name but a few to better comply with the Health and Safety legal requirements in SA through consulting services, audits and training. The company currently employs 6 people which is meaningful progress in terms of attending to the national crisis of job scarcity.

Pearl is no stranger to CoalSafe as she worked with the organizing committee for CoalSafe 2017 and hosted CoalSafe 2019.

She is a member of SAIOH (Southern African Institute of Occupational Hygienists (in the category (Registered Occupational Hygienist), a member of the MVSSA (Mine Ventilation Society of Southern Africa). Pearl Nkosi is also the current president of SACESHA (South African Colliery Environmental Safety and Health Association).
