Mongezi Veti was introduced to the mining industry at the early age of his career through the migrant labour system from the former Transkei as his parents could not afford to pay for his schooling. Having realized his situation he started saving his meagre salary and later put himself back to school after which he earned himself a bursary from Anglo American to study mining engineering. As they say: The rest is history.
He is now the Executive Head Sustainability at Exxaro, the position he has held since 2010. In his career spanning from the 80’s. He has earned an extensive mining experience, which started in the Gold, Platinum and seemingly ending in the Coal mining industry. He holds a Master of Business Leadership (MBL) from University of South Africa (UNISA), diploma in mining engineering from University of Johannesburg, and an Executive advanced management program at Wharton Business school, at the University of Pennsylvania in United States.
He is a certificated professional engineer registered with Engineering Council of South Africa.
